Message from the President of MSSAA

Dear Fellow Alumnae,

Greetings to you all!

I am truly honoured to be re-elected as President of M.S.S. Alumnae Association Limited (“MSSAA”) for 2024 and 2025.  I am grateful for the ongoing support of Dr. Catherine Fong as Vice-President, Ms. Ivy Lam as Honorary Secretary, Ms. Pauline Tsang as Honorary Treasurer and Ms. Karen Ho as Co-Treasurer.   Our dedicated executive committee also includes Ms. Irene O’Hoy, Ms. Abbie Cheung, Ms. Elisa Wong, Ms. Florence Tsoi, Miss Amanda Joe and Miss Marie Choy,  A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Eadaoin Hui (School Supervisor), Mr. Kyle Chan (MSS Principal),  Ms. Brenda Lo (MPS Principal) for invaluable support and guidance over the years.

MSS has always been a place of growth, learning and lifelong friendships and I am proud to be part of such a vibrant community.  In October 2023, we established the MSS/MPS Centenary Preparatory Committee co-chaired by Ms. Asha Sharma and myself.  We have formed various teams – Events, Souvenirs, Promotion, Fundraising, Design and Theme/Image Advisory – to plan for upcoming celebrations.  The 97th Anniversary Logo and Slogan Design Contest took place in December 2023, followed by the Walk for Wellness fundraising event in April 2024.  The Committee is planning additional events to celebrate the 98th Anniversary, leading up to the Centenary in 2027.   I invite you to share your thoughts and feedback as we work together to honor our shared past and inspire the next generation of students.

To strengthen our alumni network and enhance our communications with current S6 students, we invite distinguished alumnae to participate in the Welcome S6 Lunch to share their valuable experiences and insights.  I encourage you to engage with the Schools in various ways – whether through membership, guest speaking or simply sharing your story n the Welcome S6 Lunch.

Thank you for your continued support and for being an integral part of our Schools’ legacy.  I look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming events.

Yours sincerely,

Barbara Chan

President of MSSAA

Message from Mr Kyle Chan, MSS Principal

After all these years, what are your best memories at MSS? Have you ever thought of reliving those moments with your dear friends? In anticipation for MSS’ 100th anniversary celebration in 2027, it is a time to be reminded of the long and fine traditions of the school together as a community. It’s time to re-connect.

During Summer this year, I went on a trip to Wicklow Ireland to visit the Columban Sisters.  This is a trip which I have planned and anticipated since the end of 2023.  The weather was excellent and I was thrilled to see our beloved Sr. Sheila Crowe, Sr. Mary Greaney, Sr. Mary Mortel, Sr. Isobel Loughrey, and Sr. Margaret O’Brien all in good shape. I enjoyed a delightful Irish lunch and endless tea with all the sisters as we shared the good old memories of MSS and our anticipation for our Centenary. I specially prepared and presented an album for Sister Sheila and brought along many MSSAA souvenirs for the sisters. It was a trip to be remembered for life.

For the past year, I was very grateful to MSSAA which has been working endlessly in planning and organising various events in strengthening the bonding among all alumnae.  These included the S6 Welcome Lunch, the MSSAA CNY Lunch and specially-designed souvenirs were sold at our Fun Fair.  Nevertheless, our first Centenary Celebration event, Walk for Wellness, was successfully held in April organised by the Centenary Celebration Organising Committee to kick-start our celebrations.

Please continue to actively participate in our future MSSAA and Centenary Celebration events and I look forward to greeting and reconnecting with you all at MSS!

God Bless.

Mr Kyle Chan

MSS Principal

Fun with Ikebana (26th August 2023)

Ikebana is a traditional Japanese art of flower arranging; blossoms, branches, leaves, and stems find new life as materials for artmaking.  In contrast to the western habits of placing flowers in a vase, ikebana aims to bring out the inner qualities of flowers and express emotion. Considerations of color, line, form, and function guide the construction of a work. The spirits of ikebana applies to all periods, while the style of works may change overtime.  We were honoured to have two of our alumni, Pauline Tsang and Jennie Wei,  to host the Fun with Ikebana event.  Both Pauline and Jennie are certified Sogetsu instructors and experienced in teaching ikebana in Hong Kong!  During the workshop participants had fun learning how to make the Basic Upright Style Moribana (盛花),  the style of arrangement using a shallow suiban and kenzan for arrangement.
